Most of the land within the present neighbourhood was at one time part of the University of Alberta research farm. The soils in the area were of a type known as malmo and hence the name for the neighbourhood.
Explore how Malmo Plains fits on the map: the gold fill is the boundary in effect for the selected time period, dashed outlines show every earlier superseded shape from prior eras, red pins are linked structures built in that era, and purple pins are sites.
