Tawa means "you are welcome" in the Cree language to honour Aboriginal leaders and history. The Tawa neighbourhood represents the northern half of the Mill Woods Town Centre.
Explore how Tawa fits on the map: the gold fill is the boundary in effect for the selected time period, dashed outlines show every earlier superseded shape from prior eras, red pins are linked structures built in that era, and purple pins are sites. Use the time period buttons below the map to explore the neighbourhood over time. Boundary history is documented in Stories.
Tawa¿s primary land use is institutional, and the Grey Nun¿s Hospital and a large school/park site fill out the centre of the neighbourhood. Residential construction in Tawa began in the 1990s and continued into the early 2000s. Civic ward: Karhiio. District: Mill Woods and Meadows. City boundary records effective 1981-10-01.
