Annexed to the City in 1972 as part of West Jasper Place, most of Dechene's appealing keyhole crescents and curving, quiet streets date from the 1980s. Area households, of which over 50 percent are families with children at home, are a short drive from the wide variety of commercial and entertainment services of West Edmonton Mall.
