Mayliewan, named after a body of water was taken from the Cantonese word meaning "beautiful day". Development began in the 1980s with the bulk of construction taking place in the 1990s and 2000's.
Residents have easy access to parks and two stormwater lakes. A large school/park site is located in the centre of the neighbourhood and houses St. John Bosco Elementary School and a children playground.
